Mission Independence

Due to the abundance of poverty in Haiti, relief programs are often unsuccessful because they come to give away money or supplies for a time, creating a dependence for the people of Haiti who are not trained in the skills to work for themselves or even to skillfully manage the donations they were given. VOC supports Pastor Lavaud because he works hard to instill autonomy and independence into the people of his native country.  Lavaud is not a short-term missionary, he is a well-known and well-loved member of Haitian society.  Lavaud has worked for decades to give the people of Haiti the gift of true life change and lasting skills to not only benefit each individual who comes in his door, but the greater Haitian society as a whole.  Each of his projects is geared toward promoting education and the necessary tools for his students, whether young children, teens, young adults, or older adults - to gain valuable life skills enhancement.  Read more about Lavaud's vision on the What is the SSP? page.

CPOD provides an EDUCATION, not a HANDOUT

The CPOD School provides basic K-12 education, with an additional Technical  School for graduated students. Willing students are educated with a high school graduate education and technical trade skills in the areas of computer science, seamstress/tailoring, accounting, electricity, welding, carpentry and plumbing. Students who work hard and graduate from Lavaud's school are qualified to obtain jobs throughout Hinche and Haiti where they serve the community and contribute to their society for a greater quality of life for all.

VOC provides TOOLS FOR LIFE

Our Student Sponsorship Program not only provides for the education of willing students, but we organize and facilitate several other programs that provide for work-oriented skills and independence.  We have attended to some emergency relief needs, such as with our Blanket and Supplies Drives, but we have also focused on gifts that will promote independence for the families, such as our agricultural Seed Project and our Goat & Chicken gifts for families of the students in the school.  When you give to VOC, you are creating skills and supplies that will enhance the lives and community of our students for years to come!
