One of the goals for the VOC mission trip in March of 2017 was to be able to bless the orphans living at the Little Christian Center (LCC) Orphanage in Hinche.
In preparation for the trip, we reached out to VOC supporters to begin collecting items to bring for the 56 children living at LCC.
The response was overwhelming and we were able to bring far more items than we had expected. The orphans, the orphan mama caretakers, and Pastor Lavaud were all blessed by the outpouring of generosity of so many, and the willingness of Americans to help Haiti's poorest and most vulnerable.
Items that we were donated for each child:
~ Travel size pillows & pillow cases
~ Towels with each child's name embroidered on them
~ Dresses for the girls, shorts & a shirt for the boys
~ Underwear & Socks
~ Bandanas
~ At least 2 toys each, items included: race cars, jump ropes, soccer balls, coloring books, bubbles, tennis balls, hair accessories, water bottles, jewelry, and more.
When the team arrived in Haiti, they were able to split their time with the orphans into two separate parties. During the first party the children colored pages and wrote letters to their sponsors, were given the clothing, pillows, underwear & socks. The team read a Bible story out of the Creole "Jesus Storybook Bible" for the children. They were able to bring several copies of the Bibles to leave at the orphanage.
During the second party, the children received their personalized, embroidered towel, toys and snacks. Pastor Lavaud spoke to the children regarding the expectations of responsibility for their new gifts. The children have very few personal items, so it is a priority to Pastor Lavaud and the caretaker-mama's to teach the children that when they are given things, they realize the importance of stewardship.
The children living at the orphanage were exceedingly grateful for their new gifts. The team was honored to be able to hand them out, but there wouldn't have been any gifts to hand out were it not for the many donors and volunteers who gave of their money, time and talents to provide such amazing things. Thank you to each and every one of you that gave. God is faithful to use anyone willing for His glory and to serve those He loves around the world.
To God be the Glory!
