Request from employees at SCA Neenah converting facility spur company donation
NEENAH, Wis. – SCA, a global hygiene and paper company with local operations in Neenah and Menasha, Wis., recently donated $25,000 of its Tork® All-In-One Shampoo Bodywash & Conditioner liquid soap to the Voice of Compassion for use in Haiti, which is still recovering from a devastating earthquake in 2010.
The Voice of Compassion is a non-profit ministry based in Kimberly, Wis., with an ongoing mission supporting the Haiti Christian Ministry Center in Hinche, Haiti. SCA employees at the Neenah converting facility learned of this outreach and submitted a request to SCA for a product donation to support the effort.
“I began collecting individual soap and lotion donations from my co-workers here, so when I learned that the company was going to donate 950 cases of the Tork All-In-One Shampoo Bodywash & Conditioner to the cause, I was ecstatic,” said Rene Zuiches, who works in SCA’s receiving department at the Neenah converting facility.
“The people of Haiti are still in great need of help as they continue to rebuild after the 2010 earthquake and face new setbacks from fires and additional earthquakes,” said Jerry Block, president of the Voice of Compassion. “Most of our fundraising efforts have been small scale to date. We are very thankful for this significant donation from SCA, which will enable us to help a greater number of people in Haiti.”
The donated liquid soap from SCA and its employees is expected to arrive in Haiti within the next one to two months, via a large shipping container. A variety of organizations and businesses are donating services and funds to cover all of the shipping expenses.
“I am proud to work for a company like SCA that cares about people and the planet and that gives employees like me a voice in the way we give back to our communities, both local and global,” Zuiches said. “I am also very grateful for the many donations we received directly from the employees. Every donation helps.”
SCA and its employees in the Fox Cities and around the world have made significant contributions in the past to relief efforts in response to other crises. In 2010, SCA and its employees committed funds to the American Red Cross efforts immediately following the earthquake in Haiti. They also supported the cleanup efforts with substantial donations of funds and hygiene products after the 2010 oil spill in the Gulf and the tornadoes that struck Alabama last year.
SCA has approximately 930 employees in the Fox Cities, including nearly 760 between its Menasha mill and Neenah converting facility and 170 at its Service Excellence Center in the town of Menasha. In addition to Wisconsin, SCA’s North American away from home professional hygiene business has manufacturing facilities in Alabama, Arizona and New York, and employs more than 2,200 in the United States and Canada.
